Diesel Engine Fuel and Maintenance

Diesel Engines have come a long way since their inception in the 1980’s. When Rudolf Diesel, a German engineer, created the compression ignition, or diesel engine it was slow and rather inefficient compared to other options of the time. Diesel’s main goal was to create a use of the oily petroleum by product that we now call diesel fuel. While diesel was not an instant hit, it has been polished over the years and is now one of the most efficient and versatile fuel options available. Diesel Services of America is committed to bringing you the very best the diesel engines have to offer. Our highly trained technicians know all that there is to know about diesel engine fuel and maintenance, so you can rest assured that your unit is in the best possible hands.

Diesel Engine Fuel

While some personal vehicles do use diesel fuel, most diesel engines are installed in commercial grade equipment, trains, and boats. Diesel engine fuel is, as stated above, a byproduct of refining petroleum. When diesel was first created, it had a high sulfur content that was harmful to both humans and the environment. However, beginning in 2015 laws were passed that limited diesel sulfur content to less than 15 parts per million. Unfortunately, the stigma that diesel is a “dirty” fuel still exists. Yet with these new laws, diesel is safe and an even better fuel option than ever. It is highly combustible due to the fact that it is composed of hydrocarbons. This gives diesel engine fuel a higher energy density that a comparable amount of gasoline fuel. Along with the fact that most diesel consumed in the US is domestically produced, diesel has become one of the country’s leading industrial fuel types.

Diesel Engine Maintenance

Because of the high energy density of diesel fuel and the high operating temperature of the engine, maintenance is extremely important for a diesel engine. As with any important industrial grade product, it is recommended that maintenance is done by seasoned professionals.
