Uber Expanding to Yachts?

The widespread popularity of smartphone apps has made getting from point A to point B easier than ever. Companies like San Francisco-based Uber, have revolutionized the world of transportation with their popular travel apps that make booking and paying for rides possible with just a few taps of the screen. Uber has expanded their services from cars, to boat rides in Instanbul, and even helicopter rides in California. And now, they’ve gone one step further, entering the world of larger marine diesel vessels. Launched just a week ago, the UberYACHT service allows residents of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to book a full yacht party experience using their existing Uber app account.

For now, UberYACHT represents a one-time event that took place on the fifth of May, a party and tour of Dubai’s iconic coastline. However, it is possible that Uber could possibly team up with separate yacht companies in the future to deliver similar rides in a variety of locations. The UberYACHT was a fully catered experience with food, drinks, and live DJ performances for the price of AED300 ($82) per person. Sounds too good to be true, and for those unlucky enough to try booking late, it was. Uber spokespeople claim that within a few hours of being made available to the public via the Uber smartphone app, all available vacancies were booked. We can only hope that if Uber decides to repeat this experiment in the future, they’ll consider expanding the service to multiple vessels to accommodate more passengers.

Founded in 2009, Uber offers its transportation services to hundreds of communities all of the world. Providing an average of three million rides a day, the company’s $51 billion net worth makes it the most valuable startup company in the world.
